Earlier today, Wema Bank Plc.‘s Management team led by its Executive Directors, Mr. Segun Opeke and Mr. Tunde Mabawonku, paid a courtesy visit to ODU’A Investment Company Limited (OICL) at Cocoa House, Ibadan. The Wema bank delegation also included key members of Wema Bank’s South West team.
Welcoming the visitors to the Iconic Cocoa House building, the Headquarters of OICL was the Group Managing Director/CEO, Mr Abdulrahman Yinusa, who was joined by members of OICL’s management team.
The meeting served as a platform to reinforce the long-standing relationship between both organizations while exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
Mr. Yinusa in his remarks highlighted the deep-rooted history shared between OICL and Wema Bank Plc. as both organizations are deeply rooted in the economic and financial evolution of South-West Nigeria. He gave an overview of OICL’s ongoing transformation, emphasizing key projects such as the redevelopment of Premier Hotel and the ambitious plans to upgrade Lagos Airport Hotel.
The Group Managing Director expressed optimism about the upcoming South-West Development Commission, which will be headquartered at Cocoa House. He noted that the commission has the potential to accelerate regional economic growth and enhance infrastructure development, aligning with OICL’s strategic vision for the South-West.
Speaking on behalf of Wema Bank, Mr. Tunde Mabawonku shared insights into the bank’s transformation, particularly its emergence as a leading force in Nigeria’s digital banking sector. He underscored Wema Bank’s commitment to innovation and financial inclusion while showcasing Wema’s positioning as a future-ready institution.
In the same vein, Mr. Opeke reflected on Wema Bank’s history from its humble beginnings in Yaba in 1945 to becoming a financial powerhouse. With the bank, set to celebrate its 80th anniversary in May, he emphasized Wema Bank’s resilience, adaptability, and continuous evolution in the banking sector.
Beyond the discussions, the Wema Bank delegation was treated to a unique experience at the Odu’a Museum and Hall of Fame, where they toured relics, artifacts, and stories of notable Yoruba icons. The team also visited the iconic Cocoa House rooftop, where they enjoyed a breathtaking view of Ibadan.
