The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Johnson Adenola, Psc, led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the historic Cocoa House building, the headquarters of Odu’a Investment Company Limited (OICL).
The Commissioner and his team were warmly welcomed by the OICL team led by Mr. Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director/CEO of OICL, alongside Mr. Yemi Ajao, Executive Director/ Group Chief Investment Officer, Mrs. Abiola Ajayi, Company Secretary and Head of Legal; Engr. Olusoji Sangobiyi, Technical Assistant to the GMD on Special Projects, Mr. Victor Ayetoro, Head, Branding and Communication; and Mrs. Florence Adesina, the Chief Security Officer.
The police delegation included DCP Isiaka Salawu (CID, Iyaganku), DCP James Useni (Operations), ACP Martins Bamigboye (Intelligence Department), ACP Shade Bamigboye (Human Resources), CSP Dr. Babafemi Okunowo, CSP Ademakin Joseph, Inspector Dele Olashiru (Aide-de-Camp to the CP), Corporal Emmanuel Asuan(Orderly to the CP), and the command’s spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, NIPR.
In his remarks, CP Johnson expressed his admiration for the historic significance of OICL and the enduring legacy the company represents. He was particularly impressed with the structural integrity of the Cocoa House building, which remained standing as a testament to quality construction and maintenance over the decades. In his words, “I want to commend what management has been doing, particularly in keeping this building standing. This is more than a visit; it is an assurance of our commitment to collaborate and support OICL,” he stated.
The police chief emphasized the importance of security consciousness in today’s environment, recommending strict access control to critical areas of the building. He reiterated the vital role of the police force in maintaining security and assured OICL of his command’s full support throughout his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Oyo State.
In response, GMD Abdulrahman Yinusa appreciated the CP for taking time to visit and assured him of OICL’s continuous efforts at improving security measures across the company’s operations. He emphasized the company’s readiness to collaborate with the police command in pursuing common objectives. He acknowledged the vital role the police play in securing lives and property, as well as in maintaining social stability that facilitates investor confidence. Mr. Yinusa noted that Odu’a Investment Company’s mission extends beyond profit. OICL is committed to social and economic progress and regional development. “We see this visit as a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to the public good,” he said.
OICL’s Company Secretary, Mrs. Abiola Ajayi, shared detailed plans for the “Cocoa House at 60” celebration, scheduled to commemorate the building’s milestone starting from July 30th, 2025, with a grand finale in mid-August. She presented a comprehensive timeline of events to celebrate the iconic structure and specifically requested for police support in terms of security during the celebrations.
Delivering the closing remarks, Mr. Yemi Ajao highlighted the long-standing relationship between OICL and the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that as OICL continues to expand its investments, particularly in agriculture, the need for a stronger security partnership will be critical. He expressed hope that the visit would mark the beginning of an even stronger relationship.
The police delegation also visited the Odu’a Museum and Hall of Fame, where they were treated to a rich display of Yoruba heritage through carefully curated artifacts and historical narratives. At the Hall of Fame, the visitors learned about distinguished Yoruba personalities who made remarkable impacts in various fields of human endeavor. The tour culminated with a visit to the building’s rooftop, where the delegation enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of Ibadan city.
